Interview

Thank you so much for joining me, Emily, and congrats on your latest release!! What has been the most difficult part about being a writer?

I think the most difficult part is my own self-doubt.

I can definitely relate to that. Going into releasing my book, I doubted myself so much. Even now part of me whispers those niggling little doubts. Who are your favorite authors?
I love a lot of authors. Heinlein is my favorite in the Science Fiction world and someone I grew up reading. I enjoy Nora Roberts and Anne Rice. I have a wide range of favorites, and too many Indie authors I love to read.
Love those authors! And I completely agree about too many indie authors to love :) If I tried to list out all of my favorite indie authors, I'm pretty sure we'd be here all day lol. Do you like to plan your scenes out or do you just wing it?

I just wing it. Sometimes I don’t know where it is going when I start.

I'm the same way! It makes the writing more exciting I think :) What type of books do you like to read?

It really depends on my mood. I am a huge fan of Regency, but it has to hold my attention like Claudy Conn’s does. I will read romance occasionally. I am always down for horror and paranormal fiction. I will give anything a chance.
Ooo never heard of Claudy Conn, I'll have to check her out. What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to read, watch Netflix, and work out. I of course do these things together I watch Netflix on the elliptical or my Kindle fits perfectly in it so I read while I sweat.

Hmm, that sounds like a brilliant combination. I should try that and then maybe I'd actually work out lol. Where is your favorite place to vacation?

Any beach, I love the ocean.
Me too! I used to pretend I was a mermaid who lived in the ocean :) What’s your New Year’s Resolution?

To drink more water, I kept it simple this year.

I think that's a wonderful resolution because it's one that shouldn't be too hard to achieve. Why did you choose to write paranormal?

The possibilities are endless, and I love taking known creatures and putting them in completely different situations or being able to interpret them in a unique way.
I couldn't agree more. Paranormal books open the door to such imaginative things in my opinion. What has been the most fun about working on your books?
Creating my own little worlds, and having the whole story rush at me when I least expect it.

That's one of my favorite aspects too :) What has been the hardest scene for you to write?

Death scenes are always difficult. I want to do the character justice while making the reader feel for them.
A part of me dreads writing my first death scene because I'm pretty sure I'm going to bawling my eyes out. Do you have any favorite characters?

I love all my characters. Julie was fun to write because she is pretty unsure of herself in a new body. She has to be two different people at all times.
Oh that sounds very interesting. I'm intrigued now. How did you come up with the premise for The Reluctant Succubus?
I was in the shower, and the story rushed at me.
That's awesome :) I haven’t seen many books featuring a Succubae protagonist. Why did you choose to have Julie become a Succubus?
I am not sure, but I wanted a different kind of Succubae, not one who dealt with a sexual nature.

I always love when authors bring a new spin to existing folklore. Tell us more about the world of The Reluctant Succubus.
Julie Monroe is in Hell in the first part. She has no clue how she got there or why she died. She is told she can go back but only as a Succubae working to send the Devil souls that have committed terrible sins. The people are dying anyway but she has to be there to filter them to Hell or they will just fly around on Earth.

Asa is her mentor and the demon who is supposed to show her the rope. They pose as a married couple going to college, and she gets a new body. She has to do her job while adjusting to a new body, new afterlife, and trying to remember why she is dead, and what landed her in Hell in the first place.
Now I'm dying to read this book, no pun intended ;) Is this going to be part of a series? If so what can we expect from future books?
The Reluctant Succubus is a series with three novelettes. Each part will leave you hanging of course, as far as other parts of the Fire Rose series I might do a prequel with one of the villains, you never know.
Wonderful!! I can't wait to see more from you :) What's next for you?

With the New Year comes a new challenge. I am going to re-release Zombified under my pen Lyra Mcken which has been rewritten and will be going through a deep edit. I also will be starting a science fiction series that will span out into several novellas which I am very excited about. I also have a Fantasy that I have been plotting so I will be very busy as always.
Wow you will certainly be quite busy! Before you go, is there anything else you want your readers to know?
I have a release out on January 5th called Long Road Full Speed Ahead. It is a darker story with humor mixed in. I want everyone to give it a chance even if it isn’t something you would usually read.

The Reluctant Succubus (Novelette 1 in the Fire Rose Series)

When Julie Monroe ends up in Hell, she has no clue why she ended up there. The things she knows are that she's dead, she's transparent, and she's been given a second chance, kind of. She has been given the opportunity to return to Earth as a Succubus.

She wants to get out of Hell, but she isn't too keen on sucking souls for the Underworld. To make things even more complicated she has a huge crush on her mentor. He has been in the business of the Succubae for hundreds of years.

Julie is convinced that she can escape. She is convinced that she can run away and hide, but as she discovers different dimensions of Hell on Earth she begins to realize that maybe there isn't a way to escape her fate.
